Reading: Read the rest of the short story "Slower Than the Rest" and mark the places where you notice your thinking happening (connections, questions, visualizations, opinions etc.)
LA: Blocks 2-3..choose one of the four seasons from Eben's second tree (oak) poem to illustrate using colored pencils the images his words create in your mind. Blocks 7-8....cut and glue into journal, Eben's poems about his tree.

Reading: After reading Everybody's Different but the Same too, create a chart showing Nilou's strengths and concerns with evidence you found in the text to support your claims. Then include a brief response finishing the sentence...."I can relate to Nilou because..."
LA: After reading three poems by Williams, discuss the pictures/scenes his words created in your brain, underline the words that helped you picture this, and draw one picture for each poem using colored pencils.

Reading: After reading "Everybody's different, but the Same too" today in class, identify a unique quality or perspective you bring to our reading class and design a "piece" to add to our "salad bowl".
LA: Complete Beginning of the Year Survey on Mrs. Hamill's wiki (click on Language Arts and scroll down on the page to the survey). Most students finished in class today.
